Foi escrito em Objective-C e Cocoa e necessita de OSX 10.2 ou superior e no mínimo G3 a 500 MHz.
O Xplanet foi baseado no Xearth que coloca a imagem da terra, no desktop do utilizador, tal como é vista do espaço.
